Aim of webinar: Transfer of experience and knowledge gained during the implementation of the EduEnvi project 

EduEnvi/Enhancing Competences of Sustainable Waste Management in Russian and Kazakh HEIs

Erasmus Day as part of the global event ErasmusWeek 2021, organized by the National Erasmus + Office in Kazakhstan under the leadership of Director Tasbolatova Sh.U., was held on October 16, 2021 by participants of the project EduEnvi/Enhancing Competences of Sustainable Waste Management in Russian and Kazakh HEIs realized in the M.Auezov SKU, with active participation of Associated partner university- South-Kazakhstan State pedagogical university, and partner universities of the project –al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and Sh.Ualikhanov Koshetau university. The webinar audience have asked project coordinators and participants how the program benefited them and how the acquired results will be applied.

The following reports were presented:

Local coordinator from M. Auezov SKU Botagoz Mutaliyeva presented to the webinar audience with the highlights in the implementation of the project aimed to modernize, improve the accessibility and to internationalize the higher education in Physical sciences and Environmental protection in Kazakhstan and Russia within the framework of the Erasmus + program component “Capacity building in higher education”, presented the main achievements and the impact of the project at the personal, university and institutional levels, the impact on the relationship with the world of labour and employers, and the strengthening of international cooperation.

Yerkin Makhashov, deputy head of the commercialization office from South Kazakhstan State Pedagogical University, associate partner university of the project, also spoke about joint activities that were held with social ecological organizations of SKSPU (under leadership of professor Galiya Madybekova and EduEnvi project), the project intensified work towards solving environmental problems, had a positive impact on university students and teachers, and organized “clean corners” on the campus of the university and four student houses.

Further Zhanar Shortanbaeva from KazNU named after al-Farabi, Anuarbek Kakabaev from Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau university and Almira Saparbekova from M.Auezov South-Kazakhstan university presented series of reports on online learning modules developed during the project. Courses were presented on the national platform of Massive Open Online Courses. Each module focuses on a specific aspect of sustainable development, 4 out of 8 modules were developed by Kazakhstani partner universities. Three modules delve into waste management technologies, another three focus on environmental, state, and institutional management. The last two modules touch upon environmental monitoring and evaluating the lifecycle of existing and promising waste management technologies.

The developed courses were introduced by universities into existing educational programs, which increased the possibilities to better organize the educational process, the accessibility and mobility of training, and also the professional competencies of teachers were implemented during development of courses.

The webinar was attended by teachers, students, undergraduates, doctoral students of various specialties, such as Biotechnology, Metallurgy, Pedagogy and psychology, Economics, Mathematics, Informatics, Philology, Chemical technology of refractory non-metallic and silicate materials, Automatization, management and systems for digital data processing, Innovation technologies in production of functional food products, Innovation technologies in the light industry, Technological production of textile materials, and other specialties, as well as teachers and students, master degree students from partner and associate partner universities, representatives of other projects such as KAZDUAL (M.Auezov SKU), RELEAP (Tashkent institute of light and textile industry).

Webinar on  the theme: Possibilities of E-learning tools in conditions of pandemy

On February, 15, 2021, a webinar was held on  the theme: Possibilities of E-learning tools in conditions of pandemy, where information was provided on the project courses developed in the framework of  «585761-EPP-1-2017-1-FI-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP Enhancing Competences of Sustainable Waste Management in Russian and Kazakh HEIs / EduEnvi, as well as new technologies and tools for e-learning, especially in relation to the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, which necessitated a move to online learning, and therefore, knowledge of online learning tools has become particularly relevant.

The organizers of the webinar were the participants of the project from Biotechnology department of the Higher School of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology of the M. Auezov SKU and Project preparation and support center.

Al-Farabi KazNU, Sh.Ualikhanov KokSU, M.Auezov SKU, as well as students, undergraduates, doctoral students, took an active part in the webinar, in addition, there were many interested listeners from associated partner universities and other organizations, such as SKSPU, Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Chemistry and Biology, M. Gorky Comprehensive Secondary School from Shardary, 80 IT school  lyceum, lyceum No. 46, Sulutorskaya secondary school №38 of Zhambyl region etc. The number of  webinar participants reached up more more than 100 people.

The team of the EduEnvi project from the M. Auezov SKU shared the methodological and instrumental competencies that they acquired during training workshops at European partner universities, and showed how it si possible to work with a new format of knowledge, how can apply new learning technologies; how the video lectures were recorded; and how e-learning tools (Canva, Logo, Prezi, Google Form, Google Classroom, Zoom, WebEx meeting, Kahoot, Socrative and others) are used in the educational process.

The developers noted that practical assignments were drawn up using the real market to involve students in solving specific situations and projects that arise in the industrial field, which ultimately is focused both on improving the qualification level of students and forming the ability for further employment.

At the end of the webinar, a survey was conducted, where the respondents expressed a desire to take the courses developed within the framework of the project, attend the webinars that will be organized by the project to exchange experience, and enhance the multiplier effect of the results among universities, schools, colleges, and industrial enterprises. Certificates of participation were given to the participants of the webinar.

Webinar on the topic “Turn Waste Into Your Income”

Al-Farabi KazNU together with the EcoFermer Educational Center was holding a webinar on February 11, 2021 at 15.00 on the topic

“Turn Waste Into Your Income”

within the framework of the international project Erasmus + ” Enhancing Competences of Sustainable Waste Management in Russian and Kazakh HEIs / EduEnvi”.

The speaker was Ten Denis, practitioner in the field of green building, vermiculture, production and use of alternative energy sources. The webinar were attended by students from Al-Farabi KazNU, Kazakh National Agrarian University, Sh.Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University, M.Auezov South Kazakhstan University, etc.

Organizer: Department of Thermophysics and Technical Physics, Al-Farabi KazNU.

All interested parties were invited to participate to discuss and exchange new ideas in the field of waste disposal. The number of  webinar participants reached up 87 people.

 

EduEnvi meeting, January 20, 2021

On January 20, 2021, EduEnvi meeting to plan the coming tasks and activities in 2021 was held between project managers. Curriculum development status, that is electronical curriculum status, and letter to the officer, status update of the project, prepared by Olga Sergienko, were considered during meeting. Botagoz Mutalieva proposed final dissemination seminar plans, and information about courses posters were given by Julia Sergeeva.

In addition, P. Parkmankulova prepared information on the section devoted to the results of the EduEnvi project, as well as the internationalization and modernization of higher education, which will be held within the framework of the international scientific and practical conference “Auezov Readings” in April 2021.

It was also decided to hold an International Forum at the Al-Farabi KazNU, and the final conference based on ITMO. All final seminars and conferences will be held online in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic.photo

Summer School Information

On June 15, the Summer School was opened.

From June 16 to June 25, 2020, the Summer School “Green Technologies” was held, organized jointly by the departments “Biotechnology” (moderated by B. Zh. Mutaliyeva) and “Ecology” (moderated by Zh. Shingisbaeva, chief of the “Ecology” department),  in the preparation of the program of which was contributed by the participants of the EduEnvi project from partner universities: Aigul Kurmanbayeva (Sh.Ualikhanov KokSU), E. Pinigina, O. Prituzhalova, I. Akhmedova and L. Sulkarnayeva (TSU), S. Polbitsyn (UrFU), and S Bolado, P. Garcia (Valladolid University), A. Saparbekova (SKSU). During the Summer school lectures were given by representatives of EduEnvi project, lecturers from various universities from Kazakhstan, Russia, Spain, Norwey, Uzbekistan, Belgium.

On June 15, the Summer School was opened.

 

Second day June 16, 2020: students were able to listen A.S. Kurmanbayeva, a lecturer from the Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University, with an interactive lecture: Introduction to environmental risks. After the lecture, a seminar was organized, in which in which the trainees and the teacher took an active part.

 

After the completion of the seminar and a 5-minute break, the students met in an online class of lecturers from Tyumen State University – I.D. Akhmedova, and L.D. Sulkarnaнeva on the topics: “Environmental, social and economic risks in the disposal of waste”, and Software to support risk assessment procedures”, which were held in an interactive form, the students received instructions on how they can view the material and tasks on the GoogleClassroom platform, which contains lectures, videos and assignments for the listeners.

 

It should be noted that for dissemination purposes the teachers used the materials of the courses developed within the framework of the EduEnvi project «585761-EPP-1-2017-1-FI-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP Enhancing Competences of Sustainable Waste Management in Russian and Kazakh HEIs / EduEnvi, for example, representatives from partner universities – Kurmanbayeva A.S. (Sh.Ualikhanov KokSU), I.D. Akhmedova, and L.D. Sulkarnaeva, O. Prituzhalova, E. Pinigina (Tyumen State University), Saparbekova A.A. (M. Auezov SKSU).

In addition, the project participants from the University of Valladolid, Silvia Bolado and Pedro Garcia, and Ural Federal University named after the First President of Russia B. N. Yeltsinб S.N. Polbitsyn held master classes with listeners.

Third day, June 17, 2020: O.A. Prituzhalova, Tyumen State University, conducted a master class with the listeners, using materials developed within the EduEnvi project, with case studies, video lectures, and also a discussion on the topics “Life Cycle Assessment and Environmental Product Design”,  “Life cycle assessment principles”.

On June 18, 2020, there was a continuation of the Summer School for listeners, at which such outstanding scientists as M.K. Zhekeyev conducted their lectures. (M. Auezov SKSU), Harsha Ratnavira, Maletskiy Z.V. from the Norwegian University of Natural Sciences in Oslo with an interactive lecture on the topic: “Trends and Drivers, Challenges and Opportunities in Water and Waste Water treatment”.

June 19, 2020: the lecture of Doctor of Economics, Professor S.N. Polbitsyn from the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin, UrFU, Russia (partner university of the EduEnvi project), who gave a lecture on the topic: Digital innovation, to which he also invited 18 of foreign Master degree students, who took an active part along with the other participants on the prospects of digital technology, as well as such an interesting topic, which affects the minds of many people: what chips are, how they work, and what opportunities new technologies provide.

June 22, 2020: as always, the listeners took their places and began to listen with interest to the lecture given by E.P. Pinigina from Tyumen State University, Russia (partner university in the EduEnvi project), also related to sustainable waste management, after which the students were engaged in practical work, which they also passed to the teacher on the GoogleClassroom platform.

June 23, 2020: an interactive lecture given by Dr. Niyazov L. from Bukhara Technical University on the topic “Obtaining water repellents based on local raw materials to protect building materials from moisture and salinity” was very interesting and exciting. After the lecture, students were given a case study, according to which the students gave their vision of solving problems, showed a creative approach and logical thinking.

June 24, 2020:  it is worth noting the lectures of professors from the University of Valladolid (partner university of the EduEnvi project) Silvia Bolado and Pedro Garcia with a demonstration lesson and the application of the case study method on the topic: Recovery of organic matter and nutrients from slaughterhouse wastewater, as well as a lecturer from M. Auezov SKSU, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor of the “Biotechnology” Department Saparbekova A.A., who gave a lecture on the topic: Environmental biotechnology as a part of Green technology, using materials developed under EduEnvi project.

June 25, 2020: And finally, the penultimate day of the Summer School, which was also interestingly held with the participation of Darkul Tiyessova, IGSCE and A-level Chemistry tearcher of the Azerbaijan British College, Baku, and Professor Nagima Dzhakipbekova and Associate Professor Gani Iztleuov from M.Auezov SKSU.

 

On June 26, 2020, an exam was held, as a result of which the listeners were given certificates, and some were given transcripts.

 

Webinar of extraordinary meeting of the project management group in the direction of staff training with higher and postgraduate education at the M. Auezov SKSU on the topic: Global challenges and new trends in higher education in post-Covid-19 conditions / pandemic.

May 26, 2020, EduEnvi project participants Mutaliyeva B.Zh., Olga Sergienko from St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO), St. Petersburg, Russia, Sisko Mullinen from the School of Professional Teacher Education Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland, took part in an extraordinary meeting of the educational and methodological association – the project management group (EMA-PMG) in the direction of staff training with higher and postgraduate education at the M. Auezov SKSU on the topic: Global challenges and new trends in higher education in post-Covid-19 conditions / pandemic.

Dr. Sisko Mullinen made a presentation: Finnish Higher Edducation Online:  Learning  and Warnings (Notes, Recommendations), in which she shared their experience on how to conduct online socialization before introducing content, the benefits of blended learning, that that works best, about necessity to plan activities more than materials, make the instructions extra clear, and what to do to avoid mistakes.

Olga Sergienko shared their experience and peculiarities of the transition to distance learning at ITMO University before and during the pandemic.

Thus, the participants of the EduEnvi project took an active part in the webinar, and the opportunity to disseminate ideas and results of the project, as well as to increase the impact of the project at the international and institutional levels.

 

 

 

Webinar on the results of the pilot phase of the project, 31st of March, 2020

The webinar of the project EduEnvi was organized at 31st of March 2020. 86 people were registered for the webinar and 50 people took part. Teachers, students, representatives of enterprises, as well as stakeholders from Kazakhstan, Russia, Spain, Denmark, Finland and Greece participated in the webinar.

The webinar demonstrated the results of piloting courses uploaded to the platforms of Al-Farabi KazNU and the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, and the participants shared by concrete examples from practice.

In the developed courses were used the knowledge and skills necessary to create courses for online learning, which were acquired during training at workshops that took place at the University of Applied Sciences Tampere, Finland, on the use of innovative technologies such as Socrative, Aswergarden, padlet, prezi, screecast matic, google my maps, zoom, etc .; at the University of Applied sciences in Lillebaelt, Denmark, the purpose of which was the use of problem learning methods aimed at the development of scientific thinking, and at cooperation between the university and the industry; as well as at the University of Valladolid, whose goal was to explore the latest best practices in sustainable waste management.

Thus, the teachers took part in the development of online courses, which were successfully completed and piloted during the end of 2019, and the beginning of 2020, and the results of which were presented at the webinar.

Webinar entitled “Experience of European Universities in the Implementation of Erasmus + Structural Projects: Global Challenges and Modern Trends”

On May 14, 2020, a webinar was held at M. Auezov SKSU entitled “Experience of European Universities in the Implementation of Erasmus + Structural Projects: Global Challenges and Modern Trends”, organized by project EEIHSR–  Economics, Ecology and Infrastructure at High-Speed Railways in collaboration with the EduEnvi- Enhancing Competences of Sustainable Waste Management in Russian and Kazakh HEIs  project. The main aim of webinar was translation of best practices of European partner universities in the framework of Erasmus projects +, moderated by Aigul Iskakova, vice-rector for strategic development and internationalization of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan State University. . Presentations were made by  Ella Kallio, EduEnvi project  Coordinator from Tampere university of Applied sciences, Finland; Sergey Polbytsyn, EduEnvi project manager from  Ural Federal University named after the First President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin, UrFU, Russia; Elena Queck, research assistant of the Department for  Railway Signalling and Transport Safety Technology, TU Dresden (Germany), Project manager EEIHSR –  Economics, Ecology and Infrastructure at High-Speed Railways. Shaizada Tasbulatova, Director of National Erasmus+ Office in Kazakhstan National Office also took part in the webinar. An interactive discussion with the audience followed the presentations of the speakers.
